Its time to add a verse

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.

Proverbs 4:20-22

Advertisement companies spend billions of dollars to capture our attention offering longer life and good health. We are willing to try techniques to make our lives less complicated with the hope of prolonging our days. Certainly, the Bible is more than an advertisement. It provides an uncompromised instruction to eternal (never-ending) life. How is it possible that anyone would neglect this cash free opportunity to experience what we are all searching for?

As a believer in Jesus Christ, realizing that there will be adverse situations in your life is a lesson to be learned quickly. I have walked through the fire of adversity because I kept God’s word in front of my eyes. The word adversity reminds me to add a verse of scripture to my memory. This is not true because of the Hebrew or Greek translation of adversity but simply a reminder of a greater reality. Life has taken me through challenging obstacles in which I would not have made it without a word from God!

Confidently searching the scriptures with an expectation for answers demonstrates our passion for instruction from Him. His word washes over the hurting places bringing peace and comfort creating a soothing, healing experience in my soul. A wise person adds a verse of scripture into their heart on a regular basis especially before entering the midst of adversity. I think of it this way, if you add a verse (of scripture) it removes the impact of the adversity that will come as sure as the sun will rise and set daily.

I have heard it said that “if you want to talk to God read His word. If you want to hear His voice read it aloud.” A conversation with God should become as natural as breathing. Let us not wait until the troubles of life have beaten us down before talking to God. Our Father is waiting on us to come to Him. He sees it all…especially when we are overwhelmed. When our soul becomes downcast, we must seek God’s word with an assurance that He is waiting for us to do just that.

There is no greater feeling than finding the verse in the Bible that seems to fit perfectly with my circumstance. I am always amazed by the discovery of the many treasures in God’s word. During my most difficult struggles those verses are a light to my path. I find it easier to recall the verse if I read over it several times and write it down. The pleasant surprise of the verse that you have memorized and hidden in your heart will comfort you at just the right time!

A woman on a mission: Jesus Heals. Faith. Unity.

That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all Your wondrous works. Psalm 26:7 A mission is an assignment with a specific end goal obtained upon its completion. I spent over twenty-six years in the United States Marine Corps training to accomplish the numerous missions set before me. As a breast cancer survivor, I realize that my military training was only a small part of a larger picture that God has for me. It is necessary to share God’s wondrous works in a world filled with so much doubt, chaos, and unbelief. Jesus Christ Heals My mission is threefold, and the most significant element is to tell you and all that will listen that God still heals. Cancer had burrowed inside my lymph nodes and in the ducts of my breast, but it did not prevail. I begin to call on the name of Jesus as I placed my life into His Hands. It is nothing great that I did that allowed me to live after a cancer diagnosis. It is my belief that over 2000 years ago, Father God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to take all my sicknesses and diseases in His body and nail it to the cross. Faith I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am a daughter of the Most High God. I have been hidden under the shadow of His wings. I make no apologies for my proclamation that Jesus Christ is Lord. I know that He is a healer. I know that He loves me and that He talks with me. You can fulfill your God given destiny also if you will only believe. My life has not always been easy, and I am sure that you can relate to that sentiment. When life has treated me unfairly, I held on tightly to the anchor of my hope—God. I did not always have a deep relationship with God or understand how much He loves me. Looking back over my life I see that it has been His hand that kept me when I did not know how I was going to make it through trials. Unity God has always sent messengers to walk with me throughout my journey. He ensured that from the day I left my parents’ home, at age seventeen, they reminded me of His saving grace. I have experienced sisterhood’s that are more valuable to me than silver or gold. It is my mission to share encouragement with those that may feel alone and forgotten. The end goal that I have set for my threefold mission is to hear God say, “Well Done!”

Seasons

Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 A power outage is a distinct reminder that we are not as civilized as we all think. My family and I experienced a three-day outage in the beginning of January that left us cold and hungry as we regretted not waking up earlier that morning to drink that first cup of hot coffee. We were grateful for the ability to still have hot water and a gas fireplace even though it only radiated heat without power for the fan. It was not enough to keep us from discomfort. Were we prepared for the winter season? A new season does not always feel like the newness we come to expect from change. Each season brings with it the individual elements that make it unique in its own respect. Life is like the seasons that we withstand as nature evolves throughout the new year. I often long for the days of the season with perfect weather, the same is true as we all hope that the good times will last without the difficult ones. As we mature spiritually, we must embrace the variation of moments that create our days here on Earth. The change of seasons is often subtle although all around us the signs are present. Father God has promised that He will do a new thing even in our darkest hour. Will we recognize it as He makes the impossible a possibility? God will provide deliverance beyond what we can even think or imagine. In the book of Isaiah, He makes this promise to the children of Israel letting them know that He would deliver them from captivity. I read the Bible with a clear understanding that God is immutable–He never changes. The things that He does are new to us, however, He has a record of saving His children! Never believe that your circumstances will not change or that your wilderness is beyond reach. Keep an expectation that God is on your side and know that He will do a new thing that can blow your mind!
